Coffee experts agree that the optimum temperature for brewing coffee ranges from 198° to 204°F. It is at these levels that the aroma and taste of the grounds are fully extracted without turning acidic or bitter. And it is exactly within this temperature range that the Brew1 Single-Serve Coffe e Brewer heats the water it showers on the coffee grounds.

The Brew1 machine neither has a motor nor pump that forces heated water from the heater to a showerhead over the coffee grounds. Instead, it has a boiler system that heats water to its boiling point of 212°F. The resulting steam then rises through pipes leading to the showerhead. Before reaching it, however, a small amount of cold water is injected into the pipes to bring the steam's temperature down to 200°F, thus turning it back to a liquid state. It is this that finally reaches the showerhead.

Although the machine's showerhead itself does not spread out the dripping water, the task is performed by the proprietary coffee capsules that the Brew1 exclusively brews. The capsules are called coffee baskets by their makers. There is a layer below the coffee basket's top cover that is perforated in several locations that causes the water to drip all over the coffee grounds instead of over a single location.

The combination of the temperature of the water and the way it is dripped over the coffee grounds delivers a great-tasting cup of coffee consistently.
